Gene transfer is one of the key technologies in life science to control cell fate. Thus far, various methods have been developed. There is a strong demand for physical gene transfer method (ex. electroporation and sonoporation) since physical methods are expected to achieve safe and high-efficiency gene transfer. Recently, non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma technology has been applied in gene transfer.
When plasma-generated active species reach the surface of cell membrane, the active species react with cell membrane enhancing the permeability of cell membrane for substance introduction. We are investigating how plasma improves substance (gene) introduction and trying to achieve high-efficiency gene transfer.
