Plasma-assisted microperfusion system for promoted cell growth

In regenerative medicine, stable cell culture is demanded. Cell culture for obtaining specific cells requires time and efforts. Shortening cell culture time is important to accelerate regenerative medicine.

To perform stable cell culture, microperfusion systems have been developed using lab-on-a-chip technology. Microperfusion systems comprise microchannels for supplying the culture medium and microchambers for culturing cells. To simulate in vivo conditions, microchambers are fabricated to form guiding structures or threedimensional (3D) structures. These structural improvement is effective to promote cells growth.

On the other hand, non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma technology has been used in biomedical applications. One of the applications is promoted cell growth by plasma stimulation.

Here, lab-on-a-chip and plasma technologies are combined to achieve effective cell culture.
