Electricity supply-demand operation using water pumps
Energy storage devices such as battery have been considered as a measure for variable renewable output such as photovoltaic (PV) power generation.
However, the installation of the BESSs should be minimized because of the high cost.
Therefore, the demand response technique for supply-demand balance maintenance using existing resources have gained much attention.
We focus on the gravity flow waterworks as demand response resources, which supply water by using the potential energy of the water stored in the water distribution reservoir. We are developing methods for supply-demand balance maintenance using water pumps and their participations in electricity markets.
